Pressure

For Saxophone and Percussion

As the last piece, I wrote for my senior recital I have been swept and overwhelmed with personal conflicts of graduation, finding a job, and the stakes of the next step after college. The two musicians blossom from each other in the beginning to slowly drift apart. They always somehow find a want to make music together, but they both want to lead the music. This power struggle evolves into a section of consonant and dissonant modal improvisation. The two fight until all that’s left is the pulsing of what they’ve sung before until it fades away.

This piece was commissioned by Anthony S. Cincotta II to be written as a collaboration between him and percussionist William Alderman. I’m so thankful I was able to work with both of them!
